Parents as Partners

No Resource Beats a Trusting
Teacher and Parent Relationship

You know your child better than anyone. We spend a good part of their week with them. When those two kinds of knowledge meet, children thrive, which is why we treat parents as partners rather than as an audience.

That partnership is built out of small, everyday habits: a diary that comes home filled in, a photo that arrives while the moment is still warm, a door you can walk through without an appointment.

How we keep in touch:

  • Diary Daily, per child
  • Updates Photos in real time
  • Key Person One per child
  • Open Door Visit any time
  • Email & SMS Notices and news
  • Events Parents welcome

Your Child’s Day, Delivered in Real Time

Being away from your child during the day is hard, particularly in the first weeks. So we do not make you wait until pick-up to find out how it went. Photos and updates reach you while the day is still happening, the first steps into the sand tray, the moment a tower finally stayed up, the friend who shared a snack.

Every child also has a daily communication diary. It records the ordinary but important things, what they ate, how they slept, how toileting went, what caught their interest, and it works in both directions: write to us in it, and their Key Person will read it and reply.

A Key Person Who Knows Your Child

Each child is assigned a Key Person: the educator who knows their routines, their comfort object, their favourite book and the particular way they like to be settled. They are your first point of contact for anything about your child’s day, and the person who gathers observations for their EYFS learning journey.

An Open Door, Not an Appointment

You are welcome to call during the day to check in, parents never need to apologise for that. While a child is settling in, you are welcome to stay in the classroom, and we agree a gradual settling-in plan with you so that goodbyes get easier at your child’s pace rather than ours. If you have a concern, speak first to your child’s educator; if it needs more, the Director is always available.

Ways Parents Get Involved

Parents are a real part of nursery life at Little Regent. Over the year families join us for events and celebrations, come in to read stories, help out at bake sales, volunteer on activity days, and visit at open days. If you have a skill, a story or a spare morning, we would love to have you.

  • Daily communication diary for every child, written both ways
  • Real-time photos and updates during the nursery day
  • A named Key Person as your first point of contact
  • Termly learning journey summaries with WOW moments and artwork keepsakes
  • Newsletters, email, an SMS centre and the reception notice board
  • Open-door policy, including staying in class while your child settles
  • Events, reading sessions, bake sales, volunteering and open days

More answers to everyday questions are on our FAQ page, and you can reach us any time through the contact page.
