Fabulous Flamingos: first words, first adventures
Our Fabulous Flamingos class · 12–24 months
Flamingos are one to two years old, walking (or nearly), talking (or nearly), and into absolutely everything. This class channels all that energy into language, movement and the first sparks of independence.

What learning looks like at this age
The EYFS prime areas do their heaviest lifting in the toddler year, and our planning leans into them:
- Communication & Language: naming games, story time, puppet shows and songs that turn babble into words.
- Physical Development: climbing, balancing and dancing in the kiddie gym and outdoor play area, plus little-finger skills at the craft table.
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development: playing alongside friends, managing big feelings, and doing small things “all by myself”.
Messy play, music and movement, sand and water, and quiet time in the book corner round out the week, early literacy, maths and creativity growing naturally out of play.
A day built on routine
Flamingos arrive from 7:00 AM to free play, then move through a gentle rhythm of circle time, active play, snack, outdoor time, lunch and nap. Toddlers thrive on predictable routines, so the shape of the day stays the same even as activities change with our monthly themes.
Half-day Flamingos go home at 2:00 PM; full-day friends continue with afternoon play until 5:00 PM. Attendance is 3 or 5 days a week, and we are open all year.
Known, and known well
Classes stay small and ratios low, because toddlers need laps, hugs and one-to-one chatter. Every Flamingo has a Key Person who tracks their learning journey across the seven EYFS areas, celebrates WOW moments, first words are a favourite, and writes the daily diary that goes home with your child.
What comes next
At around age two, Flamingos move up to Playful Pandas, our class for 2 to 2.5 year olds, where vocabulary, friendships and imagination take off. Read more on the Playful Pandas page.
Questions parents ask
What age group is Fabulous Flamingos?
Children aged 12 to 24 months, our toddler class, bridging Tiny Toucans and Playful Pandas.
My toddler isn't walking or talking yet. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Under the EYFS every child is evaluated individually and progresses at their own pace; our educators plan around where your child is, not a fixed timetable.
How do you handle settling in?
Gently and gradually, with a settling-in plan agreed with you and parents welcome to stay while their child finds their feet. A consistent routine and a familiar Key Person make goodbyes easier within days.
What are the timings?
7:00 AM to 2:00 PM for a half day, or 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a full day, on 3 or 5 days a week, Sunday to Thursday.
