Playful Pandas: little talkers, big ideas
Our Playful Pandas class · 2–2.5 years
Pandas are our younger pre-schoolers. At two, vocabulary explodes, friendships begin to matter and imagination switches on, so the Panda room is full of talk, pretend play and things to figure out.

What learning looks like at this age
The prime areas stay at the heart of the day, and the EYFS specific areas now start to shine through:
- Communication & Language: circle time, show & tell and stories that stretch sentences and thinking.
- Literacy & Mathematics: rhymes, mark-making, sorting, stacking and counting woven into play.
- Understanding the World & Expressive Arts: the home corner, nature explorers, craft time and music & movement.
Physical play continues daily, kiddie gym, Monkeynastix and the outdoor playground, alongside growing self-care skills like handwashing, tidying up and, when your family is ready, toilet learning.
The shape of a Panda day
The Panda day starts at 7:00 AM and follows a steady rhythm: free play, circle time, a focused small-group activity, outdoor play, lunch and rest. Monthly themes tie the weeks together, from the garden to the bakery.
Half-day Pandas finish at 2:00 PM; the full day runs to 5:00 PM. Choose 3 or 5 days a week. We are open year-round and welcome mid-term starts.
A Key Person for every Panda
Small classes and low child-to-staff ratios mean every Panda is known well. Your child's Key Person maintains their learning journey, records WOW moments across the seven EYFS areas, and keeps the conversation with home flowing through the daily communication diary.
What comes next
At about two and a half, Pandas move up to Sparkly Swans, where imagination, early sounds and numbers come to the fore. Read more on the Sparkly Swans page.
Questions parents ask
What age is Playful Pandas for?
Pre-schoolers aged 2 to 2.5 years. Children then move up to Sparkly Swans, our class for 2.5 to 3 year olds.
Do you support toilet learning?
Yes. When you feel your child is ready we follow your lead, keeping the approach consistent between home and nursery and celebrating every success.
Is there outdoor play every day?
Yes, our gated outdoor area has sand and water zones, slides, ride-ons and gardening, and Pandas use it daily alongside kiddie gym sessions indoors.
What are the session options?
Half day 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM or full day 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, on 3 or 5 days a week, Sunday to Thursday, open 12 months a year.
