Waddle Ducks: our infant class

Our Waddle Ducks class · 2–6 months

Waddle Ducks is the youngest room at Little Regent, welcoming babies from just 2 months old. It is a calm, cosy space where tiny children are held, talked to, sung to and adored, and where their earliest learning quietly begins.

What learning looks like at this age

At 2 to 6 months, learning is sensory. Babies take in the world through touch, sound, light and movement, and through the warmth of the people caring for them. Under the British EYFS framework, our focus is on the three prime areas:

Treasure baskets, high-contrast books, textured toys and soothing music give little hands and eyes plenty to explore, always at your baby’s own pace.

A gentle daily rhythm

Our day runs from 7:00 AM, but in Waddle Ducks the routine belongs to your baby, not the clock. Feeds, naps and cuddles follow the pattern you set at home, woven around short bursts of sensory play, fresh air and one-to-one time. We keep daily records of sleeping, feeding and changing, so you know exactly how the day went.

Choose a half day finishing at 2:00 PM or a full day until 5:00 PM, on 3 or 5 days a week, and because we are open year-round, you can start whenever you are ready.

Small class, familiar faces

Infant groups are deliberately small, with some of the lowest child-to-staff ratios in the nursery. Every baby has a Key Person, one educator who knows their cues, their routine and their family, and a daily communication diary travels home with every child. A full-time registered nurse is on site, and our no-footwear classrooms are sanitised daily.

What comes next

Around 6 months, babies move up to Tiny Toucans, our class for 6 to 12 month olds, where crawling, babbling and bolder exploring take over. Read more on the Tiny Toucans page.
