Tiny Toucans: babies on the move
Our Tiny Toucans class · 6–12 months
Between 6 and 12 months, everything starts to happen: sitting, crawling, cruising, babbling, waving. Tiny Toucans is built for this wonderful, busy stage, a safe, padded world where babies can practise every new trick with a familiar adult close by.

What learning looks like at this age
Learning in Tiny Toucans is hands-on in the most literal sense. Guided by the EYFS prime areas, our educators plan days around:
- Communication & Language: babble conversations, peekaboo, rhymes and first words in the making.
- Physical Development: crawling trails, pull-up points and soft climbing shapes in our kiddie gym.
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development: the confidence to explore, with a trusted Key Person as home base.
Heuristic play with treasure baskets, water and sand trays, and messy sensory sessions let babies investigate real textures and materials, the EYFS specific areas begin here, through pure discovery.
What a Toucan day looks like
The day begins at 7:00 AM with unhurried arrivals and cuddles. Play comes in short, rich bursts, sensory trays, songs, kiddie gym time and fresh air outdoors, wrapped around each baby's own nap and meal routine, all recorded in the daily diary.
Half-day children head home at 2:00 PM; full-day children stay until 5:00 PM with more play, rest and quiet time. Families choose 3 or 5 days a week, year-round.
Small groups, close care
Tiny Toucans stays a small class with a low child-to-staff ratio, so no baby waits long for a lap or a helping hand. Your baby's Key Person tracks their learning journey, including WOW moments like a first clap or a first step, and shares it with you, alongside the daily communication diary. A registered nurse is on site every day.
What comes next
Around their first birthday, children move up to Fabulous Flamingos, our toddler class for 12 to 24 months, where first words and confident steps take centre stage. Read more on the Fabulous Flamingos page.
