Happy Hoppers: busy, curious and full of questions
Our Happy Hoppers class · 2 – 3 years
Happy Hoppers are old enough to have opinions and young enough to change them ten times a day. This is the room where curiosity turns into conversation, and where children start to play with each other rather than beside each other.

What learning looks like at this age
With the prime areas well underway, the specific areas of the EYFS start to come into their own:
- Literacy: stories every day, rhyme and rhythm, mark-making and the first interest in letters.
- Mathematics: counting things that matter, sorting, matching, and noticing shape and size.
- Understanding the World & Expressive Arts: nature, sand and water, painting, music, dressing up and small-world play.
Just as important is learning to share, to wait, and to use words instead of hands, practised gently, all day, every day.
A day with room to explore
The day balances child-led play with short adult-led sessions, indoors and out. Children help tidy, pour their own water and manage their own bags, small independences that matter more than they look.
We are open Monday to Friday, twelve months a year. The nursery opens at 6:45 AM, and on Fridays pick-up is by 12:30 PM, with later pick-up available if you need it.
Small class, familiar faces
Classes are deliberately small. Every child has a key person who knows their routine and their family, a daily diary goes home, a full-time registered nurse is on site, and the building has CCTV and controlled access.
What comes next
At three, children move into Foundation Stage, either Bright Sparks or Clever Cubs, for their pre-school year.
Questions parents ask
Is my child too young for structured learning?
Everything at this age is play-based. The structure is in the routine and in the planning behind the play, not in worksheets.
How do you handle biting or hitting?
Calmly and consistently, and always in partnership with you. It is common at this age, and we treat it as a communication problem to solve rather than a behaviour to punish.
Will I know what my child did today?
Yes. A daily diary goes home, and your child’s key person is available at drop-off and pick-up.
