Our Bright Sparks class · 3 – 4 years
Bright Sparks is one of our two Foundation Stage classes for 3 to 4 year olds, the final year before big school. It keeps the joy of learning through play while building the phonics, number sense, confidence and independence that make the move to school feel easy.

What learning looks like at this age
Foundation Stage planning covers all seven EYFS areas, with the specific areas coming to the fore:
- Literacy: daily phonics, blending first sounds, early writing and a growing love of books.
- Mathematics: numbers and counting with purpose, plus shape, space and measure explored through hands-on challenges.
- Understanding the World & Expressive Arts: simple science, nature, technology, craft, music and performance.
Just as important are the habits school will ask for: listening in a group, taking turns, finishing a task, and managing coats and lunchboxes, practised daily until they are second nature.
A purposeful, playful day
The day runs from 6:45 AM with free-flow play, phonics and maths moments, project work that can stretch across several days, outdoor play and story time. Show and tell builds confident speaking.
Children in this room do not nap: by Foundation Stage they are preparing for the school day.
We are open Monday to Friday, twelve months a year. The nursery opens at 6:45 AM, and on Fridays pick-up is by 12:30 PM, with later pick-up available if you need it.
Small class, familiar faces
Classes are deliberately small. Every child has a key person who knows their routine and their family, a daily diary goes home, a full-time registered nurse is on site, and the building has CCTV and controlled access.
What comes next
After Foundation Stage, children move on to school, confident, curious and ready. Their EYFS learning journey goes with them, giving their new teachers a running start.

What age is this class for?
Children aged 3 to 4 years. Bright Sparks and Clever Cubs are our two Foundation Stage classes, both for this age group and following the same programme.
Will my child be ready for school?
That is the point of the year. Children build phonics, early maths, independence and group skills daily, and their EYFS learning journey gives their next school a full picture of where they are.
Do children still nap in this class?
No. Our 3 to 4 year olds do not nap, as they are preparing for the school day.
